Kintsugi is an old Japanese repair technique for ceramics, you mend the broken ceramics with Urushi and Gold. We use a "modern" technique with special glue and porcelain paint. During the relatively harsh treatment that the ceramic has to endure in a restaurant environment, it often becomes chipped. You can use the dishes, but it might not be so nice to serve the food on them, then you can fix the damaged part with Kintsugi and get a new look (almost like a gold piece of jewelry) and it's also good for the environment - reuse instead of to discard.
